Paper Spells
Paper spells were created and developed by psychoscientists to make life easier for hunters in their dealings with the spirit world. The spells are small strips of white paper around 5"x2” with a black skull in the middle. The spells are used as both batteries and conduits for a Hunter's personal energy. The paper is just regular paper and doesn't necessarily have to have the skull imprinted on it. When a Hunter uses a spell, the paper quickly burns away in a spark of green energy that resembles fire; thus, the using of a spell is referred to as "igniting a spell.
Since paper was once a living thing, this makes is possible for a Hunter to replace the energy of the paper with their own without damaging the core of the object. So technically, anything that was once a living plant can be used. (Not only is attempting to use the remains of a human or animal (i.e. bones, flesh, etc.) seen as an abomination, it is also impossible. Humans and animals are thinking beings and the imprint of their soul and/or spirit on the body would be incompatible with any other person's.) In the past, some people used sticks (i.e. wands) to perform spells. The sticks didn't dissolve after every use as do the paper spells, but they would dissolve or break eventually. Also, since there's more of the tree present it would take a lot more personal energy to push out and replace the plant's energy. Psy-scientists have found a welcome balance of energy storage and placement in the paper spells.
The five techniques possible with the spells are intangibility, invisibility, the creation of force fields, telekinesis, and clairvoyance.
